An entry level test to assess the musical skills and listening ability of students.
This aptitude test was developed to provide teachers with a resource to aid their assessment of music students’ listening abilities. It was intended as a replacement to the aged Bentley Test and was developed with the support of three Auckland schools. It is now used at 60+ schools in New Zealand and overseas.
The audio runtime is just under 15 minutes, no prior musical knowledge is needed to complete the test and everything is thoroughly explained, with examples.
The four sections are pitch, rhythm, melody and chords. Each worth 10 marks, giving an overall mark out of 40. Each section is graded, so questions 1 to 5 are easier and questions 6 to 10 are more challenging. This means that students who are at the lower end of results are not discouraged and can strive for a reasonable mark, where those at the top should still be challenged.
